How JMIC Slough Distributes Your Donations

Islam encourages generosity and compassion, and many forms of charity exist within the Islamic tradition. Some are obligatory acts of worship, while others are voluntary acts of kindness and support for the wider community.

At JMIC Slough, we collect and distribute different types of donations in accordance with Islamic principles and charity governance requirements. Each type of donation has specific religious rules regarding how it must be used. For this reason, we maintain clear processes to ensure funds are used appropriately and in line with Islamic guidance.

Below is an overview of the different forms of charity we accept and how they are utilised.

Zakah – Fulfil your obligation and support those in need.

Zakah is a compulsory charity of 2.5% of eligible wealth for Muslims who meet the Nisab threshold. Your Zakah is distributed to individuals and families who fall within the eight categories of recipients mentioned in the Qur’an.

How JMIC Uses Zakah
Zakah donations received by JMIC are strictly distributed to individuals who meet the Qur’anic eligibility criteria, such as:

  • Individuals and families experiencing financial hardship
  • Vulnerable members of the community in need of essential support
  • Emergency hardship cases referred to the mosque
  • Approved charitable distributions that meet Zakah eligibility requirements

All Zakah funds are accounted for separately and distributed in accordance with Islamic guidance. By giving Zakah through JMIC, you fulfil the obligation upon your wealth while supporting those in genuine need within the community.

Sadaqah & Lillah – Give voluntary charity and earn ongoing reward.

Sadaqah is voluntary charity given for the sake of Allah. It can be given at any time and supports a wide range of community needs.

Your Sadaqah helps fund welfare support, community programmes, and urgent hardship cases.

Lillah – Support your mosque and community services.
Lillah is voluntary charity used to support mosques, education, and community welfare initiatives. Your Lillah donation helps maintain the masjid and deliver essential community programmes.

Sadaqah al-Fitr (Zakat al-Fitr) or Fitrana – Ensure families in need can celebrate Eid with dignity.

Sadaqah al-Fitr is a charity given at the end of Ramadan by Muslims who possess wealth beyond their basic needs. It must be paid before the Eid prayer.

It is required from every Muslim who possesses wealth above their basic needs. The head of a household must also give Sadaqah al-Fitr on behalf of minor children.

The required amount is equivalent to:

  • 1.6 kg of wheat, or
  • 3.2 kg of barley, or the equivalent monetary value.

The purpose of Sadaqah al-Fitr is to purify the fast and enable the poor to celebrate Eid with dignity.

It must be given before the Eid prayer, although it is recommended to give it a few days earlier so that recipients can benefit in time for Eid.

How JMIC Uses Sadaqah al-Fitr

JMIC distributes Sadaqah al-Fitr to vetted and approved charity partners, ensuring the funds reach beneficiaries before Eid where possible.
Your contribution allows those in need to enjoy Eid and share in the blessings of the day.

Qurbani (Udhiyah) – Share the blessings of Eid al-Adha with those in need.

Typically, a Muslim sacrifices:

  • A sheep or goat, or
  • A share in a larger animal such as a cow or camel.

The sacrifice is performed after the Eid prayer and within the three days of Eid.

    Distribution of Qurbani Meat
The meat is traditionally divided into three portions:

  • For the individual and their family
  • For relatives and friends
  • For those in need

How JMIC Facilitates Qurbani
JMIC distributes Qurbani meat to local families in the Slough and surrounding region, ensuring meat reaches communities experiencing poverty and hardship.
